Art stuff.

2025 May 03

This is gonna be a very blunt and unrefined post I feel, I don't think I can really say much other than my short experience learning art.

Speaking of, Learning art has been hard, but It's been fulfilling enough, and also fun. I kinda ignored updating my site just cause In the time I can be writing, I could be drawing instead. Of course I'm not great at, but I'm just learning.

I made these 2 drawings of Venus, my site's mascot.

These drawings are pretty ok for someone who's only been drawing for a few months. There's a bunch of things I'm discontent with in both drawings, but oh well, just another thing to improve on later. The 1st drawing is something I made as practice, and just to have as reference in the future, and the second one I made to put on one of my pages, I ended up putting it on my home page, but who knows how long it'll be there, I know It's my site and I can do what I want with It, but I can't help but feel that putting Venus there is a bit tasteless...

I have a hard time learning from sites and videos, so alot of my progress was mainly brute-forcing it, and by that I mean just looking at alot of anime art and just, analyzing, and trying to mimic how those artists did things. I would also look up specific art tips when needed. Probably alot worse of a method of learning then just taking to time to learn via aforementioned sites and videos, but It's what works for me.

Another redesign for my site may be in order now that I'm learning to draw, I love my site as It Is, but I always feel like I can make my site look a little more "cooler" whilst still keeping my current style and simple layout. I want a cool looking site that doesn't use javascript or take a million years to load or is impossible to navigate, so maybe I don't want a cool looking site. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I don't know how to end this off, but learning to draw is very worthwhile since It can be a gateway to learning other hobbies aswell, I know my girlfriend likes to egg me on about trying game development if I have an understanding of art. I still think more people having a site mascot would be really cool, every web space needs a cute anime-ish girl protecting their site.

I really need to get better at line weight, shading, posing, anatomy, etc... As It goes.

Oh, I also wanna link to drawabox.com, I'm sure this is an excellent resource for learning art fundamentals and many vouch for it; but I could never go through with it myself, but perhaps It's the thing for you.
