Caterpie (#0010)

"Caterpie, or not Caterpie"

The Worm Pokemon

Abilities: Shield Dust, Run Away

Red

Blue

Its short feet are tipped with suction pads that enable it to tirelessly climb slopes and walls.

Caterpie Cry

Introducing the first of what will be a trend for years to come, kinda crappy bug Pokemon lines.

Thus, Caterpie is the first of them, It's just a caterpillar, despite It being classified as the "Worm Pokemon" for whatever reason. To be more specific, Caterpie seems to be based of a few catterpillar species, being the Asian swallowtail, eastern tiger swallowtail, and spicebush swallowtail. tough to say which, since they all seem to share the same traits that Caterpie, that being color, "horn", and eyespots.

Eastern Tiger Swallowtail Caterpillar

Asian Swallowtail Caterpillar

Spicebush Swallowtail Caterpillar

The resemblance is uncanny, I know. Caterpie however has actual eyes in place of where the eyespots on these caterpillars are, and completely uniquely, has a tail in the shape of an Exclamation mark, cute.

Metapod #0008

"The form they promised me is great but my transition shall be agonizing"

The Cocoon Pokemon

Ability: Shed Skin

Red

Blue

This Pokémon is vulnerable to attack while its shell is soft, exposing its weak and tender body.

Metapod Cry

Naturally what comes after a Caterpillar Pokemon would be a Cocoon Pokemon, so say hello to Metapod.

It's just a pure green little crescent thingy, a silly guy. Unlike real cocoons, it has eyes, it certainly being a sentient creature while all the bug juices churn inside there.

Oh yeah, have you see a Metapod from behind? It's a cross between kinda terrifying and a lil doofy.

Upon further inspection actually, Metapod would probably be top tier in a fighting game

Butterfree #0009

The Butterfly Pokemon

Abilities: Tinted Lens, Compound Eyes

Red

Blue

In battle, it flaps its wings at high speed to release highly toxic dust into the air..

Butterfree Cry

Shortly after It's cocoon stage (and I mean VERY Shortly after, Caterpie Evolves at Level 7 and Metapod Evolves at Level 10, quite literally the shortest time to becomes a fully evolved mon via level up) you naturally get Butterfree, the Butterfly Pokemon

It's a butterfly, not much to say but it's perfectly fine, It's wings are pleasing, antennae are neat, and it has compounded eyes like real butterflies.

It's body is kinda funny on closer inspection atleast, i mean, it got long ass feet, hands I bet barely function, and it's mouth? Theres fangs coming out from the bottom of it, it's probably a mouth, hopefully. The color scheme of the limbs, body, and eyes remind me of like, mixed berry fruit snacks, this is a positive.

It's a Route 1 bug, naturally, It's not gonna be very good with its 395 BST and awful typing, It's always languished in the lower tiers or being untiered. However it has had some very interesting stints with the tools it does have. It's 2 great abilities in Compound Eyes and Tinted Lens, with former increasing the shaky 75% accurate Sleep Powder to a consistent 97.5% accuracy, If this thing outspeeds something, they will be put to sleep, and Butterfree can setup using Quiver Dance It gained in Gen 5, one of the best boosting moves in the game. The Latter, instead doubles the damage of not very effective moves, meaning that if it lands a sleep powder and gains Quiver Dance boosts, it can rip everything apart with it's high powered Hurricanes.

Butterfree still sucks eggs as a whole, again, bad typing, stats, and Stealth Rocks weakness. But it had some stuff going for it.

The quintessential Route 1 bug line, perfectly fine mons, serve an important purpose in the world of Pokemon.
